Hi everyone, this is Don Lewis your host of the big break music podcast. Well contrary to what you may have thought, the big break podcast has NOT pod-faded or gone away but is alive and kicking. As most of you probably know by now, my wife of 32 years was diagnosed with sinus cancer in January of this year. She fought a strong battle along with some of the best doctors in the country but finally lost the battle in early October. Even during her struggle with this terrible disease, she supported and encouraged me to keep my podcast going, knowing how much music means to me. She enjoyed talking with many of the musicians we have met through the podcast and they have fond memories as well.
Throughout this time I have continued to produce the podcast, although only my audience on internet radio station KCOR, Kansas City Online Radio have been able to hear the show. I was able to find time to do the shows, but finding time to update the show notes on all of the different websites was difficult. For those of you that visited the big break website were aware of this fact. But those of you who are subscribers to the show through itunes, you have not received any downloads since show # 78, which was released on september 8th. Well let me tell you that things are going to really change very shortly. I am currently working with Dave Jackson and others to completely revamp our website and will be bringing you exciting new content and shows. My goal is to have what I am calling the big break, version 2.0 ready in just a few weeks. In the meantime, I have updated our current website to allow you to download or listen to all of the shows that have been produced since September. I am also working on getting my iTunes subscription RSS feed corrected as well. This message is being sent out from my different server locations in hopes that you will know what is going on. In the meantime you can always visit out website at www.thebigbreakpodcast.com to get the latest news. Hopefully you will not have to do anything on your end when the new website goes online. To all my faithful listeners, musicians and fellow podcasters that have become part of my extended I thank you for your patience and understanding during the past year. So hop on over to thebigbreakpodcast.com and check out the new shows and soon a whole new way of discovering great new independent music. So I am going go leave you with one of the great tracks from a recent show to give you a taste of what you have been missing. The name of the group is Reverend Zen and the song is called Dangerous Times from their album Angels, Blues And The Crying Moon. Take care and talk to you again real soon. | |||

Thanks for checking out our weekly music podcast, The Big Break. Here we present some of the best music from unsigned and independent label artists from around the world.
We play music from all genres and vary the selections throughout the show. We have interviews with solo artists, bands, record industry professionals and other podcasters. We select music from an number of sources, such as the Podsafe Music Network, Garageband, Myspace, Magnatune and others. Our shows are normally family and work safe, but occaisionally we may have content that is more on the PG side. Those falling in this category are noted and announced at the beginning of the podcast. This is a high octane, roller coaster ride of a show. I hit almost every genre and style in continuing my celebration of summer and having fun.
I feature a song from Id Guinness that I believe if it had been released 20-30 years ago on corporate radio, we would consider it today a classic up there along with Knights in White Satin by the Moody Blues. I also feature a song by Kathy Valentine, formerly of The Go Go's. Along with a healthy dose of pop, blues, jazz, and rock, I think this show will stay on your iPod or MP3 player for some time. This episode is another all music show that starts off rocking and then
smooths out with blues and pop, ending up with a jazz vibe. I play some
great music from Kelly Mueller from the UK who has a wonderful soulful
voice and GREAT looks. Check out her website to see what I mean.
I have hired Adam Raimer of Madtown Aces Audio Productions to do some voiceover work, such as my show opener and closer. He is also working on several promos that I will be sending to other podcasters. He does good work and is reasonably priced. This episode is all music with an overall rock/pop feel. I am starting a new feature where I highlight musician birthdays and other related items.
I am using some new background music complements of Derick K. Miller, who writes and produces instrumental tunes that he offers to podcasters for use in their shows. I play a song from a California band called the Mars Retrieval Unit that is a great funk/jazz tune. The musicianship is very tight and the sound is great. I don't believe they have released a CD or other tunes. They can be found on Garageband. Show # 15 - Playlist - (43:58) Show Intro, Segment, and Closing Music - Derick K. This show is another all music episode. It took longer to get put up on
the network than I had planned. I originally had intended it to be an
all hard rock show and had picked out the tunes and had the show
partially assembled when problems at work caused me to get delayed in
finishing it.
When I did get back to it to record the voiceover parts, my mood had shifted somewhat and so I didn't want to be as rocking as planned. The overall feel is rock, with a few softer pieces inserted to smooth things out. On this show, I got to interview Sonny Combs. Sonny and his band Kitty
Kat Rodeo were played on my previous show and I called him at his home
in Indiana. He is a recent addition to the Podsave Music Network and
his sound is reminisant of early Chicago.
I also featured the music of Cassandra Kubinski who has a definite Fiona Apple vibe with good piano and vocal skills. Giles from the UK have an Eric Clapton feel, and The Detonators provide a great blues tune as well. sound and I can't wait to hear this track and the others from their
upcoming album.
